The sounds of spring

I love spring! I will admit that it isn't my favorite season but I do love the revival and awakening of the outside world when spring finally makes her appearance. I love the warmer days that allow for outside time; fresh air is so stimulating after being cooped up inside all winter long. I love watching the boys climb the fences, ride their bikes and play in the mud. I love watching Brad work with the horses while I sit in our yard with my feet up on the fence. I love seeing the tiny green sprouts make their way up through the cast off of last season in my flower beds. I love hearing the sounds of birds that took their leave well before the first snow fell. I love being able to wear my flip flops and go outside without a coat or jacket. I love the longer days of sunlight even though I lose track of time and forget to feed my children at a decent hour. I love the spring cleaning and organizing and all the projects that come with spring. I look forward to getting my garden up and growing again even though it means hours of weeding - it's okay because we get to be outside! I can't wait for our first BBQ outside instead of grilling in the cold and bringing it inside to eat. I love that I can jump in the truck and go visit family and friends without worrying about snow storms and getting stuck somewhere. I even love the spring storms with their dustings of snow that melt by noon and the rain that inevitably helps with the greening of the outside world. Hooray for spring!

Ode on the Spring
by Thomas Gray Thomas Gray
(pardon but this is an excerpt only)
Lo! where the rosy-bosom'd Hours,
Fair Venus' train appear,
Disclose the long-expecting flowers,
And wake the purple year!
The Attic warbler pours her throat,
Responsive to the cuckoo's note,
The untaught harmony of spring:
While whisp'ring pleasure as they fly,
Cool zephyrs thro' the clear blue sky
Their gather'd fragrance fling.
